In May 2019 I was lucky enough to board the Carnival Spirit for an itravel educational.
Carnival Cruise Lines are known for their FUN atmosphere on board. Being on board is like being on a floating resort, there is something for every age and every personality – different restaurants and bars to pick from, as well as entertainment, activities and pools on board. The Spirit is also known for its famous Green Thunder Slide, this is fun for the kids as well as adults!
We had a great group which made this trip even more enjoyable. On the first day there was some training to learn about what Carnival as a company has to offer in Australia as well as around the world, we also walked around the ship to check out all the things that patrons see as well as the behind the scenes – where the crew and entertainment stay, a walk through the kitchen to watch them create hundreds of meals, and had one of the chef’s teach us how to make their famous ‘Warm Chocolate Melting Cake’ – this was delicious!!
On Day Three we caught a tender from the ship to Moreton Island (Tangalooma Island) – there are so many things to see and do here – swimming with dolphins, sandboarding, quad biking, snorkeling and loads more – generally this is right up my alley but because it was a little cold and I prefer water activities in the heat I thought I would go for a walk along the beach then sit back a read a book while relaxing on the sand. For lunch we had the choice of either going back to the ship or staying on the island. There is a restaurant and bar across from the beach so we thought you couldn’t get much better than fish and chips on the beach!
We spent afternoons checking out the activities on the ship – pools, spa, mini-golf and an outdoor dive in movie! By the pools there is the ‘Red Frog Rum Bar’ as well as the ‘Blueiguana Tequila Bar’ – we tasted a few of these but my favourite were the cocktails at the Rum Bar!! No afternoon was complete without a small treat from the self-soft serve ice-cream.
At night while having dinner there was always entertainment making the dining room a fun place to eat, the waiters and waitresses would all stop and do a bit of a dance while everyone else stands up and joins in. One night after dinner we caught the ‘Epic Rock Show’, I love live shows, so this was awesome to watch. We also checked out the Piano Bar – this was actually lots of fun, it’s a small bar so everyone tends to sing along while having a drink and joining in! We would also stop by the ‘Red Frog Pub’ each night as it always had live entertainment, and one night decided to dance the night away at the ships Nightclub. If we were a little hungry after this we would make a pit stop to the 24 hour pizza bar before going back to our cabin. The last night was an ‘80’s Rock n Glow’ Theme night with a party on the pool deck, we dressed in our fluro and had a little dance for our last night together!
